Design for recognition
An app icon has to work at small sizes. Start with one clear subject, maintain contrast between the subject and background, and remove detail that only works on a large artboard.
Avoid putting long names, rankings, prices, badges, or promotional claims in the icon. Those elements are hard to read and can create store-listing policy issues.
Separate store and launcher concerns
The Google Play store listing icon is a separate asset from an Android launcher implementation. Adaptive launcher icons have foreground and background behaviour that should be checked in Android Studio and on devices.
For the store listing, Google Play currently requires a 512 × 512 32-bit PNG with alpha and a maximum file size of 1 MB. Always confirm the current requirement in Play Console before publishing.
Use the generator
Upload a high-resolution square source, adjust padding and the background, preview the result, and export from the master. The tool can prepare common raster outputs, but it does not generate a complete Android adaptive-icon XML setup.
